00:03 what is up guys this is mr. ninja boy
00:06 and today I'm gonna start a new series
00:08 guiding you guys through Photoshop
00:09 starting from the very basics and
00:12 essential to eventually getting into the
00:13 more advanced stuff in graphic design my
00:16 goal here is to maintain simplicity in
00:18 this series and to make it possible for
00:20 literally anyone to learn to use
00:21 Photoshop even if you've just started
00:23 and are already confused just looking at
00:25 the interface don't worry I can
00:27 understand it may be daunting the first
00:30 time you open Photoshop with all these
00:31 options in fact it can be intimidating
00:33 at first starting with any new program
00:35 but my goal here is to show you guys how
00:38 simple yet powerful Photoshop really is
00:40 the sky is truly the limit with what you
00:42 can do with it if you guys don't know
00:44 this channel isn't only focused on
00:45 gaming in fact I've started it with
00:47 tutorials on game development by the way
00:49 you can check that on on the channel if
00:51 you want to but I've always really
00:53 enjoyed teaching you guys my tips and
00:55 tricks and passing on my knowledge I got
00:57 in certain programs to newcomers and the
00:58 people looking to improve so I'm quite
01:00 excited to start the series later on
01:03 we're gonna be doing some really
01:04 exciting stuff like making thumbnails
01:05 making logos complex graphic art and
01:08 much more but in this first tutorial
01:11 we're just going to focus on the very
01:12 basics of Photoshop this is the perfect
01:14 guide for someone who has just begun
01:16 using Photoshop so like any program the
01:18 best way to familiarize yourself to it
01:20 at first would be would be to get a hang
01:22 of the interface and all its features so
01:25 we're gonna do just that then as we dive
01:27 deeper into this tutorial I'm gonna show
01:29 you guys a collection of simple yet
01:31 essential features that you must learn
01:33 while first starting all right so let's
01:35 get started alright so let's get started
01:38 with learning the interface now um to
01:41 make sure that we're all on the same
01:42 page with the interface itself with all
01:44 its features all the windows everything
01:46 let's go to window and then workspace
01:48 and then make sure you're checked on
01:50 essentials default which is basically
01:52 gonna ensure that we have all the same
01:54 features and everything alright so now
01:56 let's proceed to make our first file our
01:58 first project you can call it so let's
02:00 go to new our file and then new and then
02:03 this is basically the window where we're
02:05 gonna do all the settings for a project
02:07 so first of all we can name the project
02:09 whatever we want
02:10 I'm just gonna name an example for the
02:11 tutorials sake and then for the width
02:15 and height you can later on you can do
02:17 whatever you want mattering on what what
02:19 sort of project you want let's say you
02:20 want to do like a Twitter header or
02:23 something and then there's certain like
02:25 dimensions you want to do then you
02:28 choose that but for now we're gonna do
02:29 it a standard 1920 by 1080 dimension for
02:34 this project 1080 and then make sure
02:37 you're always selected on pixels okay
02:40 this is important um so for the width
02:44 and height you want to be on both on the
02:46 same units essentially but we're gonna
02:48 be working with pixels because it's the
02:49 easiest I mean I don't really work with
02:52 the centimeters or millimeters inches on
02:54 the computer it just doesn't make sense
02:56 for me but I mean I guess it matters on
02:58 what you're doing but for me pixels
03:01 refer now we're just we're gonna work
03:03 with pixels for both width and height um
03:05 and yeah I was gonna say for me it's
03:07 just the easiest because you know
03:08 everything is in pixels on the computer
03:10 so yeah so the just select everything
03:13 here it doesn't really matter if you
03:15 what you do for the bit-depth
03:17 I'm just gonna go 16-bit and yeah buts
03:20 that's pretty much it so let's press
03:22 Continue or okay and then we continue to
03:25 this screen which gives us the by
03:26 default we're just gonna have a blank
03:28 white square so this is as you guys can
03:32 see um right here to the right this is
03:35 basically like the layers tab this this
03:37 shows us all the layers all the elements
03:39 everything that is included in the
03:41 project so all we have now this is
03:43 basically like a very blank project with
03:46 all we have is this background um white
03:48 box sort of thing so um to first get
03:51 started and we're just gonna unlock this
03:54 layer because by default when you make a
03:55 new project the first layer is locked so
03:58 we don't really have a lot of freedom to
04:00 do like move it around and stuff so what
04:02 we're gonna do is actually double click
04:03 on this locked icon or this lock icon
04:07 and then when we do that as you guys can
04:10 see we have this like layer option so
04:12 let's name it background so
04:16 let's name it background and then we can
04:19 keep the color we can do it none and
04:21 then they'll basically be default color
04:23 or we can choose whatever you want and
04:25 that'll essentially just make the color
04:27 of the not essentially the box but that
04:31 that's like the color here let me do
04:33 that and let's let's select a color this
04:35 is this is actually very good for
04:37 organizing and then we're gonna go over
04:38 that later so lets us can see the red
04:41 color that we selected is sort of kind
04:43 of like marks it with that little red
04:45 color so later on while you're working
04:47 you can always assign layers different
04:49 colors and with that you can kind of
04:51 organize your project but that's not
04:54 very important for now we're just gonna
04:55 learn the interface for now so as you
04:57 guys can see we have a white background
04:58 here so the first thing we're actually
05:01 gonna do is learn the move tool so the
05:03 first tool that we are actually offered
05:05 in this column to the left is this move
05:09 tool so we're gonna select make sure
05:11 that you go to the right in this layers
05:13 tab and select our only one and only
05:15 layer in this project and then we're
05:17 gonna select the move tool and then we
05:19 can as you guys can see we can move the
05:21 box around and what you've seen this
05:23 background if you see this like sort of
05:25 checkered background that basically
05:27 means it's it's transparent because if
05:30 you if you render out this picture right
05:31 now it's basically gonna be transparent
05:33 so all you'd see is this box and then
05:36 nothing else this background is
05:38 transparent um so what we're gonna
05:40 actually do is undo that so you can undo
05:44 move and then let's say you do a couple
05:46 actions the best way to undo stuff is to
05:49 actually go ctrl alt Z because that is
05:52 the ultimately like you can only undo
05:54 once see as you guys can see I i undid
05:56 all the way back to creating the
05:58 background so let's actually read step
06:00 forward so if I do ctrl Z um I hold on
06:04 step forward and that's let's uh let's
06:07 add like just just for the tutorials
06:10 sake let's just do like scribbles
06:13 something like that so let's say I did
06:17 ctrl Z once and then I did it again
06:20 as you guys can see it just redid that
06:22 so the way we go step backwards if you
06:26 want to keep on undoing
06:27 more than once is ctrl alt Z or we can
06:30 go edit and then step backward that's a
06:33 very important tool you guys must know
06:34 in the future anyways so now let's add a
06:39 shape to this project as you guys can
06:42 see that is like we learned like to use
06:45 the Move tool which is you know it's
06:46 it's it's quite straightforward and then
06:49 what we're gonna we're gonna learn to do
06:51 more stuff like a rotating so the first
06:53 thing we're actually gonna do now to
06:55 learn that is actually go down to this
06:57 this tool right got you as you guys can
07:00 see it's like a little squiggly sort of
07:02 shape so we're gonna right click on that
07:04 and actually select the rectangle tool
07:06 so as you guys can see we can cut we
07:09 kind of have this little crosshair sort
07:11 of thing so we're gonna select and drag
07:13 and we're gonna make a rectangle by
07:15 doing that so we did make a rectangle
07:19 but as you guys can see it's sort of
07:21 like a a white rectangle so it's kind of
07:23 blending in the background all us can
07:25 see is like the black outline around it
07:27 kind of indicating that we're selected
07:28 on it so if we deselect that as you guys
07:31 can see we can't really see the
07:32 rectangle so we're gonna we're gonna
07:33 assign a color to it or a fill color so
07:35 we're just gonna go to the fill option
07:38 as you guys can see up here select that
07:41 and we can choose any color for the
07:43 rectangle since the background is white
07:45 anything that isn't white is it's gonna
07:47 show so let's just make this like a dark
07:51 grey color I guess that works so now if
07:55 you want to move the rectangle in the
07:58 middle of course we can do that by just
08:00 clicking dragging and if you guys want
08:02 to move any object in a sort of linear
08:05 fashion where you don't really if you
08:08 want it just like a sign like a certain
08:10 let's say we want to move it like
08:13 horizontally so we can just like put it
08:17 there and then if you just hold down
08:18 shift and then move it it sort of locks
08:21 to the position where it was if let's
08:24 say we're moving horizontally now we
08:26 can't move it left and right we can just
08:28 move it horizontally because it's locked
08:30 and then let's say we want to move it
08:32 left and right there so it that's how
08:34 that's the way you and then let's say we
08:36 let go shift as you guys can see it just
08:38 it does that so we can also do that
08:40 of course so that's the way you guys you
08:44 guys can move things linearly where it
08:47 kind of just locks on to the axis it's
08:50 on so now let's say we wanted to rotate
08:53 this rectangle we can go ctrl T and that
08:56 is basically just our basically the the
09:00 shortcut for the transform and let's say
09:03 we wanted to rotate this rectangle we
09:06 can we can guide our mouse to the sort
09:09 of corner of the box where we kind of
09:13 see this little arrow pointing downward
09:16 and then to the left and once we see
09:18 that we can click and drag to how we
09:20 want to rotate this so let's say we want
09:23 to rotate it like that or like that and
09:25 you can all you if you guys also can see
09:28 like this angle sort of thing up here we
09:30 can do that numerically we can we don't
09:33 necessarily need to do it visually here
09:35 but we can also input numbers and do
09:37 whatever you want with the angles same
09:39 with the width and width and height on
09:41 all the dimensions so let's say we
09:43 wanted to reset that to zero just to you
09:46 know have a have it like how it was
09:48 before we did anything any of the edits
09:51 or another way you guys can do that
09:53 let's say you you scaled it you did a
09:56 bunch of stuff to the object but you
09:59 didn't you want to just revert it to how
10:01 it was before um before you went to
10:04 touch control T you guys can just click
10:07 this sort of like undo icon I guess and
10:12 as you guys can see it kind of revert
10:14 sit to what we did before the transform
10:16 options so now what we're actually going
10:20 to do is yeah as you guys can see you
10:22 guys can scale it visually as I said or
10:25 you can actually do it here so let's say
10:28 we want it twice as big as it is now so
10:31 we can go 200% by 200% so it's basically
10:35 two times bigger than it was and then
10:37 once we are happy with what we do the
10:39 edits we did we can just click this
10:40 check arrow and then there are the check
10:43 icon and then basically we've just
10:45 applied all the changes we did to this
10:47 object all right so now we're gonna
10:50 actually now that's basically like the
10:52 very basics of the interface
10:54 and now we're actually gonna add some
10:56 effects to this box like a drop shadow
10:58 maybe an outer glow or something like
11:00 that and this is actually very simple to
11:03 do so we're just gonna navigate down to
11:05 oh yeah make sure you're selected on the
11:07 certain layer so if we selected on this
11:09 it kind of shows like these little
11:11 square icons where you can obviously do
11:13 the changes and then you can do all the
11:16 stuff that we learned so I'm just gonna
11:17 revert back to how it was but make sure
11:19 you're selected on the rectangle on top
11:21 and this is all very important to
11:24 actually know like the it's kind of like
11:28 a hierarchy so it let's say we wanted to
11:30 have this background on top of this
11:33 where we wouldn't be able to see this
11:34 we'd basically just have to drag that on
11:36 top so any any layer that is on top is
11:40 is shown on top of it so it's basically
11:43 like a layering system it's very
11:44 straightforward
11:45 so yeah always make sure that the
11:48 smaller layers this backgrounds are
11:50 always on the bottom of everything but
11:53 that's basically the way you want to
11:55 think about it so yeah make sure this
11:56 layer is on top of the background and
11:58 then let's say we want to add like I
12:00 said effects so we click on the
12:02 rectangle and go down to this effect
12:04 icon click on that and then go blending
12:07 options so now this is where we have a
12:10 bunch of options where we can mess
12:12 around with so the first thing I'd like
12:15 to do is to drop shadow so have a little
12:17 shadow on behind this box so we go down
12:20 to this option and click on drop shadow
12:23 so as you guys can see um we have a
12:25 little shadow behind this box but we can
12:28 make it more dress like make it bigger
12:30 so we can increase we can like make it
12:33 bigger by increasing the size and then
12:35 the spread the spread essentially makes
12:38 it more like condensed I want to say but
12:40 I'm not sure if that's the right word to
12:42 use but um so basically yeah we can
12:45 increase it using the spread and size
12:46 size just makes make it makes the shadow
12:49 spread a bit more so let's make this
12:52 size a bit smaller so as you guys can
12:54 see we have a little shadow behind and
12:56 that looks pretty nice and what else can
12:58 we do um for the effects we can add a
13:01 stroke and the stroke is basically like
13:03 a little outline that goes around any
13:05 jects so the stroke we can change the
13:08 color let's make it red for example and
13:10 then we can press ok and we can also
13:13 increase the size of the stroke by going
13:16 by clicking dragging or so like in
13:18 putting your own number so let's say we
13:20 want it 10 pixels and as you guys can
13:22 see that's the 10 pixel stroke that we
13:24 have around this rectangle now and what
13:28 else can we do we can do a bevel and
13:29 emboss as you guys can see it adds like
13:31 a little nice 3d sort of embossed bevel
13:35 sort of effect and we can increase the
13:38 depth and by doing so it gives that
13:40 illusion even more and then we can
13:42 obviously increase the size and that and
13:45 that doesn't look very good let's make
13:46 it yeah that looks good alright umm what
13:49 else can we do we can also add a pattern
13:52 overlay and then you can mess with this
13:54 add your own patterns and stuff but
13:55 these are the default patterns that come
13:57 with Photoshop so this is a nice little
13:59 texture sort of thing that's that's a
14:02 cool texture but we can't really see it
14:03 since the background is like white so
14:06 yeah
14:07 those are basically like textures you
14:08 can add so we're not gonna really add
14:10 anything for now I'm just gonna keep it
14:11 like that or actually let's just add bat
14:13 texture like that looks pretty cool and
14:14 what else can we do we can do an outer
14:17 glow so outer glow is basically let's
14:20 add a different let's make it red so
14:22 it'll go nicely with the D border so or
14:25 the stroke so the outer glow is
14:28 essentially just just like a drop shadow
14:32 sort of thing it it's very similar to
14:34 the shadow but it's it basically is just
14:37 like a little glow of a certain color
14:40 that you can choose that basically
14:42 outlines around the object you can also
14:45 do inner glow that that basically does
14:48 the same effect but towards the inside
14:51 of the object and instead of it having
14:53 it on the outside of it so we can also
14:57 do color overlay this is where we can if
14:59 it's not a shape and we can't edit the
15:01 fill we can actually do it here manually
15:04 so we can go to color overlay and and
15:06 then we can change the color do it to
15:09 whatever color we want choose whatever
15:11 color we want and yeah we're not gonna
15:13 do that now so we're gonna just uncheck
15:15 that satin basically just makes it a
15:18 little darker
15:19 but that can be cool effect and also yes
15:22 inner glow inner shadow the shadow is
15:24 based inner shadows basically like a
15:26 drop shadow but it makes it like in the
15:28 inside of it
15:28 same as inner glow in comparison to
15:31 outer glow so the same sort of idea and
15:33 a gradient overlay this is a this is a
15:35 cool feature that we can take a look at
15:37 so gradient overlays essentially it kind
15:40 of mixes colors into instead of having
15:44 one solid color so as you guys can see
15:46 this is a mixture of like a black sand
15:48 gray /white ish color and there's a
15:51 couple presets which we can choose is
15:53 like a rainbow and this there's like
15:56 striped black there's like there's cool
15:58 colors so these are only the presets but
16:02 you guys can edit them so let's say we
16:03 wanted that and then we can edit it so
16:05 we can change the colors here so we can
16:07 actually select that and then we can
16:09 select different colors so let's say we
16:11 want in the middle color like green we
16:13 can have it red and yeah so you can edit
16:16 it to whatever you basically want so
16:18 there um let's say we're happy with that
16:20 and then that's the gradient overlay so
16:22 it's basically like a mixture of colors
16:24 that's a best way to think about it I
16:25 guess so um yeah let's just keep it with
16:29 that texture and so yeah those are
16:32 basically like the effects the central
16:34 effects they're so easy to you know to
16:36 use and it's very simple and to add
16:39 everything and drop shadow all the
16:41 strokes everything um they're very
16:43 simple yet they're used in like you know
16:45 and in quite complex graphics I always
16:48 use them these are very basic and they
16:51 work really well so they're awesome
16:52 so now we're actually gonna import
16:56 eight an image from the internet that I
16:58 downloaded and edit that so the way
17:01 we're gonna do this is actually gonna go
17:03 to file and then we're gonna go to place
17:05 so there's two ways we can do this we
17:08 can go to file place and then find the
17:10 image that we downloaded so we're this
17:12 is an image of the McLaren p1 or let's
17:15 say we undid that and then we can go to
17:17 file open and then we can open that and
17:20 then that actually opens it to the exact
17:22 dimensions of the image itself and
17:25 that's the way best way to do it if you
17:26 want to edit a certain image
17:28 instead of doing it instead of placing
17:30 it inside a project but let's say you
17:32 have a project where you want to mix
17:34 pictures in and add different pictures
17:36 you can go to file place and then find
17:38 the image and then put it in but um yeah
17:41 so we're gonna basically do some edits
17:44 to this to this image so the first thing
17:47 we're gonna do is actually duplicate
17:49 this McLaren p1 so we're gonna go to
17:52 this tool right here which is called the
17:54 lasso tool and as you guys can see down
17:57 here we have a little um this thing that
18:00 says 50% is basically the how much it's
18:03 zoomed to the original size so let's go
18:05 a hundred percent so that just this just
18:08 means that we are looking at the exact
18:10 resolution of this image and the reason
18:14 why we go 50% when editing the full
18:16 project is that is so we can see the
18:20 full project because if you go over 50%
18:23 we'd have to scroll around to be able to
18:25 see everything but for this for the
18:28 lasso tool it's very important to see
18:29 every little detail so we're gonna go
18:31 100% and if you guys have a smaller
18:33 image that you want to edit then you'd
18:35 want you you'd want to go even bigger
18:37 but essentially for this we're just
18:39 gonna go 100% and once we were zoomed in
18:42 we're just gonna have a nice shot of the
18:45 McLaren so basically just zoom in to a
18:48 point where the biggest part of the
18:50 image is the the focus where you want to
18:53 duplicate so now we're just gonna
18:55 outline this this McLaren p1 having
18:59 selected this lasso tool so we're gonna
19:01 outline it starting from here and we're
19:04 gonna do a bit of a sloppy job here it's
19:06 not very important to be very precise
19:08 but all you got to do is just click and
19:11 drag with your left left mouse button
19:13 tool and just select all the outer part
19:17 of the image that you so yeah I'll leave
19:21 this image in the description down below
19:22 that you guys can edit the same exact
19:24 thing that I'm doing but if you guys
19:26 wanted to do a different image just find
19:27 one on the Internet anything really uh
19:30 it doesn't really have to be carved but
19:33 for this tutorial is simple on a car
19:36 this this image is actually very good
19:38 for like the duplicating and everything
19:39 and that we're going to do so I'm just
19:41 selecting it with this lasso tool
19:43 doesn't really have to be very precise
19:45 if I was gonna do this very precise I'd
19:47 probably go like like six hundred
19:49 percent on the zoom and then just do
19:52 like very pixel by pixel making it
19:54 really really sharp but anyways now that
19:57 we've done that we can zoom back out to
19:59 look at the full image and go fifty
20:01 percent and as you guys can see there
20:03 we've selected that now before we
20:05 duplicate it let's do the same thing or
20:07 this background and double click on this
20:08 lock icon so once we do that a we can
20:12 basically lay in the layer two whatever
20:13 we want so let's name it McLaren and
20:16 then once we've named it MacLaren's
20:18 press Enter or click OK and then as you
20:21 guys can see there we've got the image
20:23 unlocked and the next thing to do is to
20:27 make sure that you selected on that on
20:29 that layer and then we're gonna go
20:30 control-c or command-c
20:33 matters if you're on Mac or PC it
20:35 doesn't really matter but yeah so just
20:37 ctrl C and then control V so once we've
20:41 done that as you guys can see now we
20:42 have two layers and if we hide this
20:44 layer we can hide layers by clicking on
20:46 this little eye icon which indicates
20:49 layer visibility as it says there so we
20:52 click on that as you guys can see we
20:54 have just an outline of the McLaren
20:56 itself and then the background is just
20:58 transparent as I guess totally as I told
21:01 you guys before um this checker sort of
21:03 thing is indicates that the background
21:05 is transparent so let's just bring the
21:07 background back and now as you guys can
21:09 see we have this McLaren here so we can
21:11 click in using the move tool that I
21:14 showed you guys earlier we can click and
21:16 drag and move it to where wherever we
21:18 want on this project let's say we want
21:21 this McLaren facing this McLaren so sort
21:23 of switching the the direction it's
21:26 going so we can go ctrl T which is short
21:29 for transform the shortcut and we can go
21:32 to height and just add a little minus
21:35 symbol or Nova that makes it upside-down
21:38 let's let's do it on the with actually
21:39 so let's go minus a hundred percent it's
21:43 it's still maintaining the same
21:45 dimensions however it's negative on the
21:48 width making it on the going to other
21:51 direction so we can also do that by
21:54 clicking and dragging
21:55 like that but the easiest way to
21:57 maintain the proportions is to just do
21:59 it like that so once we choose a spot
22:04 where we want that Maclaren we can press
22:06 ok or we can even do the rotation like I
22:08 showed you guys earlier and that looks
22:10 pretty cool just to little McLaren's
22:12 facing each other off so what are we
22:16 gonna do now we can do some effects
22:17 let's say like a drop shadow and that
22:21 looks alright let's make it a little
22:25 bigger we can do outer glow that looks
22:28 cool and then we can increase the size
22:30 as yes and see that looks pretty cool so
22:33 yeah I just showed you guys everything
22:35 else that you know it's quite
22:36 straightforward for the effect but now
22:39 we're actually gonna do is to actually
22:41 make a adjustment layer and basically
22:45 we're gonna mess around with the color
22:47 correction the exposure everything to
22:49 make this image look as nice as possible
22:51 so the way we're gonna do this is we're
22:54 gonna go to layer and then new or sorry
22:58 no we're gonna go to layer new
23:00 adjustment layer and then the first
23:02 thing we're going to do is to add a
23:03 brightness / contrast layer so we're
23:07 just gonna click OK you can name that
23:08 whatever you want you can even color
23:10 code it just like I showed you guys
23:11 earlier too for it you know for a better
23:14 organization but we're just gonna leave
23:16 that alone for now
23:16 so as you guys can see this is the first
23:20 adjustment layer now adjustment layers
23:21 basically are just like editing layers
23:24 they're not visible they're not
23:25 necessarily like solid items but or
23:27 objects in the scene or in the and you
23:30 know in the project and the oh and all
23:32 the elements but they're basically just
23:34 to just the the visual aspect of this
23:38 project so we're gonna go to contrast
23:40 we're actually gonna increase the
23:41 contrast as you guess and see if we
23:43 decrease the contrast it it looks a lot
23:45 more like washed up or if we increase it
23:48 it looks a lot more like like vivid so
23:51 we're gonna make it let's say 40 looks
23:54 good 40 yeah that looks pretty good and
23:56 then we can increase the brightness a
23:58 little decrease it that looks pretty
24:00 nice if we decrease the brightness a bit
24:01 there too much brightness doesn't look
24:04 very good in my opinion
24:06 let's go actually -7 I thought I'd
24:08 actually go more brightness but a little
24:10 lower brightness looks a lot better so
24:13 now that looks that's how it looked
24:15 before the first adjustment layer and
24:17 then after that's how it looks so it you
24:20 know but as you guys can see it already
24:21 looks pretty cool just like that so
24:24 we're gonna add another adjustment layer
24:26 by going layer new adjustment layer and
24:29 then we're gonna go to levels now we're
24:32 just click OK just like everything else
24:34 and then levels we can there's a lot of
24:37 presets so you can mess with that
24:40 yourself here but we're gonna actually
24:41 select their preset on the level so you
24:44 can click darker whoo that looks really
24:46 cool and then there's increased contrast
24:48 and you know so this is basically like a
24:51 easy way to make your project look a
24:54 certain way so let's just me let's just
24:57 select let's see and let's see increased
25:01 contrast that's a little too much
25:03 contrast one darker that's a little too
25:07 dark mid-tones brighter mid-tones darker
25:11 I think that looks pretty damn cool and
25:13 now since it's quite dark we can
25:16 actually go back to this and double
25:18 click on that icon and increase the
25:20 brightness a bit because it is quite
25:22 dark all right that looks pretty cool
25:24 now so next thing we're gonna add is
25:27 actually a let's see a layer and the new
25:31 adjustment layer we can add a let's see
25:34 exposure and then once we add exposure
25:38 you can mess around with that we're
25:40 actually gonna decrease the exposure a
25:43 bit and then the offset you can mess
25:46 around with that and then we're actually
25:47 gonna increase that a bit just to bring
25:49 out the color that dark color is a bit
25:51 and then the gamma correction you can
25:53 mess around with that as well
25:54 that is starting to look really cool so
25:57 that is how the project are like it's
26:01 initially looked and then after all
26:02 these correct correction layers this is
26:04 how it's looking right now so let's add
26:06 one more just for the sake of you know
26:09 showing you guys how all this works it's
26:11 all the same you know it's all the same
26:14 concept you just have to tweak it and
26:16 then play with all these settings
26:17 everything just to get the perf
26:19 look of the project that he want so
26:21 let's go to layer new adjustment layer
26:23 and then let's add a let's see color
26:26 lookup now color lookups are are
26:29 basically like a correction color layer
26:32 and and these are quite tricky to work
26:36 with because you can you can you can
26:39 basically load up files that are called
26:43 LUT files and I might actually do that
26:46 later in like different tutorials and
26:48 show you guys how to make those LUT
26:50 different color um color correction
26:53 files so for now we're gonna go with
26:57 something that is default that it looks
27:00 pretty cool so we're gonna go in let's
27:03 see turquoise sepia but as you guys can
27:07 see these are basically like filters um
27:09 that make your project look a certain
27:11 way let's see that looks cool so if
27:17 we're happy with that we can just leave
27:18 that on yeah so that's basically like
27:22 the UM you know all the adjustment
27:25 layers
27:25 alright so let's say it wanted to add
27:27 some text now to this project it's
27:30 actually really straightforward in
27:31 Photoshop there's this icon with a T on
27:33 it one of the tools and that actually
27:36 allows us to add text so let's actually
27:38 select that and then anywhere on the
27:40 project that we want to act actually I
27:41 add the text box or the text itself we
27:45 can just click so let's say what we
27:47 wanted to add a title here at the top so
27:49 we can just click there and type
27:51 something so I'm just gonna say example
27:54 since this is a tutorial so as you can
27:56 see we just typed a text there but um
27:59 it's not visible because it's like half
28:01 cut off because you know it's not
28:03 positioned correctly so if we just move
28:05 like anywhere out of the actual text box
28:09 itself we can still see the the move
28:10 position before we click the check mark
28:13 for the transform tool so there as you
28:16 can as you can see it says example but
28:18 it actually is quite big this text so
28:21 let's make it a bit smaller let's go to
28:23 let's say you can change the the the
28:27 font and everything from here let's say
28:29 we wanted to change the font so it's
28:31 about some
28:32 select something else and that one
28:34 that's not a really nice font there we
28:36 go that's a pretty good font and then um
28:38 we also need to tone down the the actual
28:41 the the font size so here we there's
28:46 like a drop-down menu that only goes to
28:48 72 point but that's obviously way too
28:49 small so we can input our own number
28:53 here to make the text a lot bigger so
28:55 let's say I'm 500 yeah that's good so
28:57 that's our example text as you can see
29:00 there so that looks pretty cool and then
29:02 we can also mess around with some of the
29:04 settings for the actual text itself like
29:07 effects so we can go to FX and then
29:09 blending options and then from here we
29:11 can go to let's say overlay blend mode
29:13 and then blend mode is basically what it
29:16 does it's like there's different blend
29:18 modes that do different things like
29:20 difference is basically like it it does
29:22 opposite colors and then you can do
29:24 exclusion which is essentially does the
29:27 same thing darken that that it doesn't
29:29 really work there but you you can
29:31 basically just mess around with that and
29:33 different different settings different
29:35 backgrounds there's different effects
29:38 that work better than others so for this
29:41 one we're actually gonna go difference
29:42 that actually looks really cool and then
29:44 if we just move around you guys can see
29:45 it kinda does like an x-ray sort of
29:48 filter on the background itself on what
29:50 it's um you know on what it's on so that
29:53 looks really cool you can still see the
29:55 clouds and everything in the actual
29:57 background it's basically just the like
29:58 polar opposite of what the colors are so
30:01 yeah that's it's really simple to add
30:03 text and photoshop you can also do other
30:05 effects like drop shadow or everything
30:08 else that we learned in the effects
30:09 panel okay so now let's say I wanted to
30:12 erase a part of the McLaren so we can
30:16 actually use the eraser tool which is
30:17 also very straightforward to use so
30:20 there's this little tool like this
30:22 little eraser icon that we can select
30:24 here once we selected that we're gonna
30:26 go up to here and actually select the
30:29 size so let's go a hundred around 100
30:32 pixels and then we're gonna actually
30:34 decrease if you have a hardness on like
30:36 50 percent by default just decrease it
30:38 down to let's say we're just gonna go to
30:42 0% for now actually and then I'll show
30:45 you guys the different
30:45 when you actually increased the hardness
30:48 of the eraser so now we're gonna select
30:50 the the duplicated Maclaren layer and
30:53 then we're gonna start erasing so as you
30:55 guys can see you can erase parts of the
30:58 of this layer using this simple eraser
31:01 tool and now let's say we go step
31:04 backward and then we go to the hardness
31:06 and we increase it's a hundred percent
31:08 just to show you guys the complete
31:09 opposite so let's select the Maclaren
31:12 layer again and then we can actually
31:14 just erase it directly and as you guys
31:16 can see it's a lot different it's a lot
31:18 like crisper and then I can show you
31:20 guys a side-by-side by decreasing the
31:22 hardness and then going back and as you
31:24 guys can see here it's a lot softer like
31:26 the way it's it erases them they're just
31:28 crisp it's a crisp line so that's
31:30 essentially the difference between you
31:32 know and then you can also select a
31:34 different like brushes for the eraser so
31:37 that's like sort of like a a nice little
31:39 um a pen sort of brush or like a a paint
31:44 brush sort of not a pen a paint brush
31:47 sort of style to the eraser so you can
31:51 do lots of cool Styles with that
31:52 actually but um let's for now let's just
31:55 go control Z first step backward step
31:57 backward and just go back to where it
31:59 was so um yeah that's basically the
32:03 eraser tool and I wanted to show you
32:06 guys one more thing before I end this
32:08 first essentials sort of like basics
32:11 tutorial is I'm gonna show you guys the
32:14 pen tool now the pen tool is something
32:16 that is sort of like how you make logos
32:21 how you make like objects how you make
32:24 the shapes and stuff on in in Photoshop
32:26 and this is a very essential tool that
32:30 you must learn so let's go let's make
32:32 another new project a blank project so
32:35 let's go 1920 by 1080 or we can actually
32:40 just go back to this one I actually
32:41 forget that so let's just delete that
32:43 and then we have a back the white
32:45 background here oh we don't really have
32:47 to delete it we can just click on the
32:48 visibility icon and just hide it so
32:50 let's make a shape so let's say we want
32:54 it to make a a a letter Z so
32:59 we can start by selecting a point here
33:03 and then let's say we wanted to make a
33:05 another point here so letters that look
33:08 something like that right but that
33:10 that's not necessarily straight so we go
33:13 controller fault see for step backward
33:16 and then we can we can keep this Anchor
33:19 Point here however when we select the
33:22 second point we can hold shift down
33:24 which basically makes it straight see as
33:28 you guys can see this a perfect straight
33:30 line now to do diagonally we can also do
33:33 this shift tool you use the shift tool
33:35 then if you want to move this we can
33:37 select control and then shift or it
33:39 sorry not shift just control and then
33:41 and then now once you've dragged it to
33:44 where you want we can click shift and as
33:46 you guys can see there it's straight so
33:48 let's put it right there that looks good
33:51 and then we can also select the third
33:54 point by clicking shift and right there
33:57 so now we're gonna actually make it like
34:00 three-dimensional and there we go
34:05 you can press control to edit that one
34:07 point and then let's bring it up to here
34:10 click shift to make it straight and then
34:13 add another point by clicking shift and
34:15 make it straight of force and then
34:17 finishing this object once you once
34:20 you're finished and then you want to
34:22 like close the object you guys can see
34:25 that little circle icon bus besides lay
34:27 beside like the pen tool and then once
34:31 you click that it basically makes it a
34:33 shape and then you know we can
34:35 right-click create a let's let's define
34:38 a custom shape actually and let's name
34:40 it Z so and then we can click enter and
34:44 so let's actually go to this rectangle
34:47 icon and then select custom shape tool
34:49 and then from here there's a little
34:52 drop-down menu we can select all the
34:54 custom shapes that we have and the most
34:56 recent ones are on the bottom so your
34:58 icon that you probably just made is on
35:00 the bottom and we can click anywhere on
35:03 the screen and then have this is like
35:04 the default width and height I guess so
35:07 make sure you're always on preserve
35:08 proportions if you want to look exactly
35:10 how you made it
35:11 and then you
35:11 you can adjust the height and width but
35:13 I'm just gonna leave it like that for
35:15 now
35:15 so this is the shape that we have and as
35:19 you guys can see you can't really see it
35:20 it's probably because it's white so
35:22 we're gonna go to the effects and then
35:24 we're gonna go to color overlay and then
35:28 yeah we can change the color to whatever
35:30 you want let's just make it black I
35:32 guess cuz you know it's white in the
35:34 background it's easy to see and then we
35:36 can we can do everything else like that
35:38 I taught you guys like outer glow let's
35:39 make it
35:40 I don't know red and size spread let's
35:46 actually just make the background
35:48 transparent so yeah as you guys can see
35:50 there that's the outer glow right there
35:52 so yeah that's that's basically all I
35:55 wanted to show you guys in this
35:56 essentials tutorial I feel as though it
35:59 covered everything that is that is very
36:01 essential to learn when you first start
36:03 using Photoshop from the interface to
36:05 the you know the essential tools that
36:07 you must learn and from there it's not
36:10 very hard like everything else is really
36:12 straightforward just like this it's
36:14 basically just more detailed has more
36:16 features you know there's more features
36:18 to cover for sure and that's definitely
36:19 why I want to continue this series and
36:22 yeah that's gonna be it for this video I
36:25 hope you guys enjoyed this essentials
36:27 tutorial for Photoshop and yeah I'll
36:30 definitely be continuing this and stay
36:32 tuned and I figure if you're new around
36:34 here make sure you subscribe and because
36:36 I will definitely be doing them of
36:37 course a lot more tutorials get notified
36:39 when I do upload and yeah if you guys
36:42 enjoy this I'd love to hear you guys
36:44 have feedback what you guys would like
36:46 to see in the next tutorial and yeah
36:49 that's gonna be it for this video I hope
36:50 you guys enjoyed it as I said this has
36:52 been mr. Nimoy and I will see you guys
36:54 in the next one
