My process of completing an engineering task is laid out in this video. As a software engineer, I’m striving to improve every single day and want to share how I go about particular things at my job. I’m not sure if this is the general way of going about a software engineering task, but it’s my current way of doing it. In this particular instance, I’ll be completing a front-end development task.

Once I figure out my next task, I assign it to myself and do my best to understand exactly what is needed. I think of the end-user and how they will be using it, and I draw out anything I can.

My next step after hitting the drawing board with this front-end task is to generate my components (I’m using Angular) and whip up a basic template for what’s needed.

Then, I head on over into the services file related to my component and retrieve the particular data needed to display to the end-user. This will be pulling from the backend server.

Now it’s time to hook up the html to my web service calls, which we just hooked up to the backend, and that’s done in the component typescript file.

Once I have the pipeline running from the backend server to my front-end UI, I polish it up and add in anything else that’s required according to my task.

I really hope y’all enjoyed this video, and don’t forget to support Linode for supporting us! Thank you for watching.
